Before and After: Stunning Interior design transformations

The power of interior design. We all have been mesmerized by makeover stories… what is so attractive to us when we see the process of having a person, a space, or even a collective, live up to their potential? Maybe it’s our own search of being our best that motivates us to look for examples of others who were able to achieve their goals. Few things are as inspiring as seeing the end result of a well done transformation. Sometimes, you can see the potential clearly in the before images. Other times, it seems like a mystery, and we can’t wait to see the end of the video or the episode to discover how the designer or stylist has done their craft, and admire their ability to create and work out a vision we would not have anticipated.

BEFORE

This family bathroom was in great condition but the new owners wanted to update the style and make it feel more personal.

AFTER

This was a delight to design, although we went many times around the layout, until we accepted the shower could be next to the window.

DURING RENOVATION

All tiles out, and we had even more space than expected under the roof. We had to check the beams before opening a window to avoid weakening the roof too much.

AFTER

The new window changed the light and the mood in the space. The detached bathtub added beauty and a vintage style to the design.

BEFORE

This was the builder's bathroom, classic but too boring. The owner wanted to remove the outdated bidet and the bathtub to gain space for a walk-in shower.

AFTER

Now it is modern and vibrant bathroom like the family that lives in this home

"Just functional" is not always the best approach. We decided the shower was too tight and unnecessary on the ground floor.

Now it is a small piece of paradise whenever you need a bathroom break.

During renovation 1

We worked a little miracle as we converted this tiny shelf corner under the roof into a fully functional bathroom with shower. The first step was to empty all the shelves.

During Renovation 2

We had to cover one window and open 2 new ones to make sure they were evenly distributed through the roof.

During renovation 3

The walls were primed before tiling and plastering. Our team did an amazing job here.

AFTER

In this last photo you can appreciate already the furnishings, the fixtures and the shower glass. I absolutely loved the tropical tiles, and so did the owner.

This was the render from the design, which as you can see with the end result, we kept mostly the same except for having less tile go to the ceiling behind the mirror.

As a designer, I find the most pride and satisfaction in my work when the client is a family and their unique needs and lifestyle are what drives the design, making everyday routines of taking care of children and adjusting to their own way of living easier and more enjoyable. Here are some examples of transformations of spaces that involved a family with children, where we had to reserve an area for TV or having space in the carpet for play.

There was not enough siting space and the place felt empty and temporary.

AFTER

Before the clients called me, they had already purchased the sofa. It was fitting their need for more seating spaces, but the living room layout became a puzzle they needed assistance to resolve. So we turned them against the window.

Design Plan

This was the vision we had for the space, with provenzal style curtains and lots of light wood accessories to support the table and the piano.

This client felt very insecure about the changes, so we used FOYR Renders to visualize the new layout.

This shows the angle with both the couch and the table. We painted the walls in light blue to soften up the harsh dark couch

Going on the same topic of helping families with their living space layout, here is one of my favorite designs.

BEFORE

So MUCH SPACE. This was a new built, and the owners weren't sure how to make the space work for their family living. Christmas was approaching so the pressure was on!

AFTER

We divided the room into three separate spaces, with rugs and furniture helping anchor each of the areas. We see here the dining and the family visits area, while the TV, children play area was behind the camera.

This section was created as an invitation to chat between the adults, especially when family visits. It was important that their small children could have separate space to play with their toys, but still under the parents supervision.

The dining area. The clients had used their furniture from their former house but it was the wrong scale for their new dining space.

AFTER

We furnished all the spaces with a combination of high end products and budget items for a very elegant and down to earth result.

The key point I would like to emphasize through this post is that the sky is the limit when you have the right combination of creative vision, the right tools for the design, and a flawless execution. While there is always drawbacks and surprise issues through a renovation, clients can be assured that they will be happy with the end result when you have a team of professionals taking care of every step of the process. Each one of these projects was a joy, and I felt privileged to be a witness to the process of bringing the best out of every space.
